A concert performance of John Williams's imaginative scores from the Harry Potter films, performed by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra as part of the Family Series.
The Music of Harry Potter comes to Knight Theater on Saturday, October 17, with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performing the scores from the film series. Christopher James Lees conducts the orchestra through a program that pulls from several of the movies, starting with John Williams's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Suite, followed by the Prisoner of Azkaban Suite and the Chamber of Secrets Suite. The Harry Potter material is rounded out by the Goblet of Fire Concert Suite, arranged by Patrick Doyle and Jerry Brubaker.
Between the film suites, the program opens up to other classical works. Mikhail Glinka's Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla and Edvard Grieg's Suite No. 1 from Peer Gynt, Opus 46 are both on the bill, so it's not just the movie music.
One thing to keep in mind: this is a concert performance of the music only. There won't be any movie footage, scenes, or images from the films shown on screen, so you're coming for the sound, not a screening. The symphony describes the experience as the twinkling sounds of a celesta summoning the magical world of Hogwarts and casting enchantment spells on families of all ages.
