The 22nd year of the Great Elizabeth Pumpkin Wall tradition, featuring a ceremonial lighting of the giant display of carved pumpkins on October 25.
The Great Elizabeth Pumpkin Wall returns to 2017 Greenway Avenue in Charlotte on Sunday, October 25, with a ceremonial lighting at 6 PM. It's the 22nd year of the tradition, which has become a neighborhood staple for Elizabeth residents and the wider community. The display consists of dozens of carved pumpkins, all lit up behind that year's 'Pumpkin Wall Word.'
There are two ways to get involved. The carving party itself is for Elizabeth residents, but anyone is welcome to add a carved pumpkin to the wall, so you don't have to live in the neighborhood to put your own work on display. Once the wall is lit, it stays lit every night through Halloween, meaning you can swing by on your way home or during a walk any evening that week and see it glowing. It comes down on November 1.
If you've been around Charlotte for a while, you've probably heard of this one. It's one of those small, neighborhood-led traditions that just keeps coming back year after year. This being the 22nd edition, it's well past the point of being a new thingβit's just part of the local autumn. The ceremonial lighting on October 25 is the official kickoff, but the wall remains a fixture through the end of the month.
