Silent Cinema Café presents the 1925 silent horror classic The Phantom of the Opera with live, improvised accompaniment by Kate Bankston.
VisArt Video brings The Phantom of the Opera to its microcinema on Sunday, October 25, at 7 PM. It's the 1925 silent horror classic, and instead of a recorded score, Charlotte musician Kate Bankston will provide live, improvised accompaniment throughout the screening. Lon Chaney stars as the Phantom, the masked figure who haunts the Paris Opera House and becomes obsessed with Christine Daaé—one of the most defining performances of the silent era.
The screening is part of Silent Cinema Café, a monthly series presented by VisArt Video in partnership with PaperHouse Theatre that celebrates the artistry and enduring power of silent film. Each session starts with a brief introduction and comes with a zine-style handout of essays, images, and notes to follow along with. The series is part of VisArt's education programming.
