A community contest where teams decorate pumpkins on-site at the Urban District Market, with public voting and prizes.
Urban District Market is hosting its Pumpkin Decorating Contest on Thursday, October 22, from 6 PM to 9 PM in the main dining room at 2315 N Davidson St. It's part of the market's annual fall programming, and the whole thing is organized by The MOB Group Inc.
The format is straightforward: you gather your team and decorate your pumpkin right there on-site. The rules are a bit specific, though—you can't carve your pumpkin or decorate it before you arrive. You bring your own pumpkin, and the market provides the decorating materials. Teams can have up to four people, and entry is $25 per team.
What makes this different from a typical contest is how the winner is decided. There's no panel of judges; instead, the customers call the shots. To cast a vote, you buy a drink at & Coffee or LaBAratory and place a sticker on your favorite pumpkin. So the more people who stop by for a drink, the more votes get cast. The prizes aren't announced until November 2, with $120 cash for first place and UDM gift cards for second and third.
