Free open house with a facility tour at MakerSpace Charlotte, showcasing member projects and equipment.
MakerSpace Charlotte is holding an open house on Wednesday, October 7, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's free to attend, and the whole point is to get a look at what's actually inside the building.
If you've never been, MakerSpace Charlotte is a non-profit community for makers, programmers, scientists, engineers, students, and creative minds to share access to a wide range of equipment and building space. It's a member-run shop, and members get 24-hour keyed access to the building and the tools, provided they learn how to use them or can show they already know. During the open house, you'll get a tour of the entire facility and a chance to see members' projects in progress.
The list of what's in there is long. There's an electronics area, 3D printing, a laser lab, a blacksmith, a bike shop, and a crafts and ceramics section with pottery wheels and kilns. You'll also find a cosplay and sewing area, a fabrication and metal shop, welding, a wood shop, and CNC machines. It's a lot of ground to cover in one tour, and the open house is probably the easiest way to see it all at once.

Beyond the open house, the space runs classes open to both members and non-members, with a discount for members. Some of the titles give you a good sense of the range: Play in Clay, Wood Shop 101, and Intro to 3D Filament Printing. The organization also welcomes donations. The open house is Wednesday, October 7, from 7 PM to 9 PM at MakerSpace Charlotte, 1003 Louise Avenue, Charlotte, and it's free.
