A pastiche opera on the life and art of Caravaggio, featuring soprano Laura Bohn and theorbo player John Lenti, with music by Bach, Stradella and Monteverdi.
Murder, Music & Caravaggio comes to St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Friday, October 9, from 7 PM to 8 PM. It's a pastiche opera that follows the life of Caravaggio, the Baroque painter whose work changed the course of Western art with its revolutionary use of light and shadow—and whose personal life was notoriously violent. The evening takes you through his artistic vision and his turbulent biography, staged and visually inspired by his paintings, bringing his signature chiaroscuro aesthetic to life through music, theatre, and movement.
The music itself is a pastiche, a new opera assembled from scenes by Monteverdi, Bach, Stradella, and other Baroque composers. Soprano Laura Bohn and theorbo player John Lenti lead the performance, with the theorbo—a long-necked lute from the period—fitting the Baroque setting. The production is presented by 7th Street Concerts as part of their 2026-27: Season Four collection.
