A rotating lineup of local and regional pianists perform live at Mint Museum Uptown during Free Wednesday Evenings.
Let the Music Play: Steinway Residency Series is back at Mint Museum Uptown on Wednesday, November 18, as part of the museum's Free Wednesday Evenings. It's a rotating lineup of local and regional pianists performing live in the galleries, presented by First Horizon Bank in collaboration with the Steinway Piano Gallery.
Because the series brings in a different pianist each time, the program changes with every installment. Earlier in the year, Lovell Bradford took the bench for the second session; he's recorded alongside Slide Hampton and Branford Marsalis and served as musical director for Grammy winner Jennifer Holliday. On Wednesday, September 16, the series featured Esther Jeehae Ahn, who has performed at Lincoln Center, Boston's Symphony Hall, Seoul Arts Center, and the Moscow Conservatory. She holds degrees from the New England Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music and is Assistant Professor and Director of Keyboard Studies at the University of Central Florida. The Boston Musical Intelligencer has praised her for her interpretive coherence and grace.

The series runs every third Wednesday of the month from 6:00 to 6:45 PM, so it's a short set that leaves you plenty of time to wander the museum afterward. It's part of Free Wednesday Evenings, when the galleries stay open until 9 PM, and admission is free. If you're already planning to be at the museum that evening, the music is a natural addition to the visit.
