Award-winning improv comedy show where the audience co-creates the comedy; 16 and up.
Charlotte Comedy Theater is bringing an improv comedy show to the VAPA Center on Saturday, October 10, and they're not stopping there—they'll be back at the same venue on October 17 and October 24, too. It's a three-weekend run, so if you can't make the first one, you've got two more chances to catch them.
If you've never seen improv, the whole point is that nothing is scripted. The performers go on stage without a set list or a plot, and they build the scenes on the fly. The part that makes this one a bit different is that the audience co-creates the comedy. Instead of just sitting back and watching, you'll be called on to give suggestions—a weird location, a specific relationship, a strange object—and the cast takes those prompts and turns them into a scene right then and there. Because of that, no two shows end up being the same, even if you go more than once.
Charlotte Comedy Theater describes the show as award-winning, and they're the ones behind the whole thing. It's an improv-focused company, so this is their home turf. One thing to keep in mind before you buy: it's 16 and up, so it's not a little-kids-and-strollers kind of night. It's better suited for a group of friends or a date.

Each of the three dates—October 10, 17, and 24—has two showtimes: 6:00 to 7:30 PM and 8:00 to 9:30 PM. That gives you a choice between an early evening out or a later one, and since they're playing the same venue all three weekends, you can pick whichever night and time slot fits your schedule best. Tickets start at $25.
