A team-based adult spelling game where friends race to out-spell other table teams for laughs and prizes at Gilde Brewery.
Hella Spell kicks off this Wednesday at Gilde Brewery, and it's not your average spelling bee. It's a team-based adult spelling game: you gather your friends around a table and race to out-spell the other teams in the room for laughs and prizes. The competitive side is there, but the whole thing is built around a group of friends taking on the rest of the room, so it's as much about the table you're at as the one you're beating.
The setting is a good part of the night. Gilde Brewery, at 3530 Dewitt Lane, is an authentic German brewery with a brewing history that goes back several hundred years in Hannover. They chose Charlotte as their North American headquarters for brewing and distribution in 2019, and the taproom blends that German tradition and cuisine with the creativity of the American craft beer movement. There's also a long, odd connection to the city: Queen Charlotte, for whom Charlotte is named, was the Electress of Hannover in the 18th century.
