Contemporary jazz saxophone icon Euge Groove performs at the Middle C Jazz venue in Charlotte.
Euge Groove plays Middle C Jazz on Sunday, October 18, at 6 PM. He's billed as a contemporary jazz saxophone icon, and that's a fair way to put itβhe's spent decades playing on some of the biggest records of the last forty years.
He started out in Florida in the mid-80s, playing in salsa and Top 40 club bands and doing session work. One of those sessions was Expose's "Seasons Change," which hit number one on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. In 1987 he moved to Los Angeles and wrote a track for Richard Elliot's The Power of Suggestion; Elliot then recommended him for a spot in Tower of Power, and he toured with them for four years, backing Huey Lewis & The News along the way.
From there, the list of names he's recorded or performed with reads like a who's who of pop and soul: Joe Cocker, The Eurythmics, The Gap Band, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Aaron Neville, and Richard Marx. His horn landed on "Keep Coming Back," the number-one AC hit duet with Luther Vandross. In 1999 he started recording his own material under the name Euge Groove and posted it to the now-defunct MP3.com, where he soon topped the site's jazz chart and signed with Warner Bros.
