Noise-rock quartet Chat Pile performs live at The Underground in Charlotte, with support from Soul Glo and Shallowater.
Chat Pile play The Underground on Saturday, November 14, with Soul Glo and Shallowater opening. It's a general admission, standing room only show, and all ages are welcome.
Chat Pile is a noise-rock quartet from Oklahoma City, born out of the city's underground scene in February 2019. They take their name from the chat mounds that dot the midwestern United States, like in Picher, Oklahoma: hills of toxic, metallic residue left by early 20th-century lead mining. The lineup is Raygun Busch on vocals, Luther Manhole on guitars, Stin on bass, and Captain Ron on drums.
Their sound is sludgy and starkly nihilistic, drawing on the oppressive beat-downs of Godflesh, the vulgar absurdity of The Jesus Lizard, and the post-modern experimentation of Sonic Youth. Reviewer Evan Mester described their brand of crass, crushing, and poignantly cynical noise rock as a standout among recent D.I.Y. projects. It's the kind of music that doesn't let up, and it's a good fit for a standing room only crowd.
