A thrilling retelling of a Greek classic for children, bringing the sounds of the orchestra and the power of the human voice to life.
Welsh National Opera bring Jason and the Argonauts to the Weston Studio at the Wales Millennium Centre on Saturday 13 March, with two performances that day, one at 11.30am and another at 3pm. It's a joint production with Theatr Cymru, and it's a retelling of the Greek classic aimed at children.
The story follows Jason, who grows up surrounded by nature and music in a magical forest and spends his time longing to be a hero. When he finds out his Uncle Pelias has stolen his place as King, he sets out to take the throne back, but Pelias sets a steep price: the Golden Fleece. Jason gathers his team of Argonauts and sails for Colchis, where they face dangerous dragons and sneaky sirens, and Jason learns the true power of music along the way.
It's described as an action-packed production and a good introduction to opera for children, bringing together the sounds of the orchestra and the power of the human voice. The show runs for about 45 minutes with no interval, and it's recommended for children aged 7-12.
