Ward Thomas - A Festive Evening With

Ward Thomas play The Gate Arts and Community Centre in Cardiff on Friday 4 December, starting at 7:00pm. It's a festive evening with the duo as the main feature, and the date sits right in the run-up to Christmas.

Ward Thomas are twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas, who have been singing harmonies together since childhood. They describe country music as having been in their blood ever since a Canadian cousin introduced them to Carrie Underwood, the Dixie Chicks and Alison Krauss in their early teens. That's a specific lineage to pull from — the polished, radio-ready country of Underwood alongside the tighter, more traditional harmonies of the Dixie Chicks and the quieter, folk-leaning side of Krauss. It's the kind of mix that explains where they've landed: their vocal cadences and close harmonies bring Nashville and Hampshire close together, and that's exactly what they're known for.

If you've never seen them, the whole thing is built around those two voices working in tandem. Because they're sisters, there's a natural lock to the harmonies that's hard to replicate with two singers who didn't grow up singing together. It's a sound that sits comfortably in the country tradition, and it's what they'll be bringing to the stage on the night.
