Historical drama directed by Paul Greengrass, based on the true events of the Peasants Revolt, starring Andrew Garfield and Jamie Bell.
The Uprising opens at Chapter Cinema on Friday 16 October, running through to the 22nd. It's a historical drama directed by Paul Greengrass, based on the true events of the Peasants Revolt.
The story is set in 1381, in an England ruled by the council of the 14-year-old King Richard II. It follows an Essex ploughman grieving the loss of his family who steps in when a tax collector begins to humiliate villages, and ends up inspiring revolts across the country, becoming the leader he never realised he could be. It's a muscular historical drama built around the true events of the Peasants Revolt and shot with the visceral, absorbing style Greengrass brought to Captain Phillips and the Bourne trilogy.
The cast is a big one. Andrew Garfield plays the ploughman, with Jamie Bell as John Ball, Cosmo Jarvis as Wat Tyler, and Thomasin McKenzie as Alyce. Woody Norman takes on the role of King Richard II, Katherine Waterson is the Countess, Tom Hollander plays Treasurer Hales, Stephen Dillane is Archbishop Sudbury, and Stanley Townsend is Chief Justice Belknap.
