An evening of revelry, music and performance with sets by RNLI, AJET and Moy Cohen, part of the Cardiff Music City festival.
The Tale of John Barleycorn takes over Porter's on Wednesday 14 October, an evening of music and performance that forms part of the Cardiff Music City festival. It's a bit of a mixed bag on the bill: RNLI, AJET and Moy Cohen all have sets, so you'll get three different acts in one night rather than one long headline show. The whole thing is billed as an evening of revelry, music and performance, which gives you a fair idea of the mood.
The night is built around a particular theme: it celebrates King Barleycorn's annual harvest games, a competition in which champions gather from across the land to vie for the most prestigious prizes. It's that harvest-game framing that gives the evening its title, and it's the context the music sits within. Because it's part of Cardiff Music City, it's one of several events running across the city as part of the festival.
One thing that sets this apart from a standard gig is the dress code. The organisers are encouraging guests to turn up in costume, and they've left the definition wide open: period, weird or autumnal all count. If you've got something that fits any of those, it's a good excuse to dig it out. If not, you'll fit in just as well in your usuals.

It all kicks off at 20:00 at Porter's, on Barrack Lane in the city centre (CF10 2FR). With RNLI, AJET and Moy Cohen sharing the bill, you've got three sets to get through over the course of the evening.
