Film directed by Aaron Sorkin about Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, screening at Chapter with multiple showings daily.
The Social Reckoning opens at Chapter on Friday 16 October, with screenings running through to the 22nd. It's a drama written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, based on the true story of Facebook engineer Frances Haugen, who enlists Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz to help her blow the whistle on the company's most guarded secrets.
If that sounds familiar, it's because Sorkin also wrote The Social Network back in 2010. This isn't a sequel, though; it's presented as a companion piece, and it looks at the other side of the story. While the first one was about the people who built the platform, this one is about what happens when someone from the inside decides to tear the curtain back. Sorkin describes it as a reflection on how the media has become an intrusive force in our internal lives, so it's as much about the reporting as it is about the leak.
