A traditional Welsh evening of song and music held weekly at the Chapter café bar, open to all ages with instruments and voices welcome.
Noson Lawen kicks off at Chapter on Tuesday 13 October, and it's not a one-off — it runs every Tuesday night through to 29 December. The sessions take place in the café bar, so it's a casual, drop-in sort of thing rather than a formal gig. If you're around on a Tuesday evening in Cardiff, it's something you can keep coming back to throughout the autumn and winter.
For those who aren't familiar with the name, a noson lawen is a traditional Welsh evening of song and music. The whole point is that it's open to everyone: you can come along to sing, play, or just sit back and listen to traditional music. If you do want to get involved, you're encouraged to bring your own instrument — a fiddle, a crwth, or a pibgorn, for example — as well as your voice. It's a session, not a concert, so the music comes from the people in the room rather than a stage.
Each session runs for around two hours, and since it's a weekly thing, you can drop in whenever suits you. It's free to attend and there's no need to book, so you can just turn up on a whim. Donations are welcome, and they go towards supporting the artistic programme at Chapter. If you're bringing anyone under 18, just keep in mind that licensing means they can't stay in the building past 10.30pm.
