Folk singer-songwriter Grace Petrie performs an intimate solo set followed by a full-band career retrospective of her sixteen-year catalogue.
Grace Petrie plays The Gate on Wednesday 21 October, starting at 20:00. It's a show in two halves: an intimate solo set followed by a full-band performance that looks back across her sixteen-year catalogue, so you'll hear her both on her own and backed up.
Petrie has spent those sixteen years as one of the UK's most urgent and passionate songwriters, making politically charged folk music that's taken her from Cambridge to Vancouver and the Blue Mountains of Australia. Her live shows are known for razor-sharp lyricism and a stage presence that fans say creates an atmosphere of hope and solidarity, and the LGBTQ anthem 'Black Tie' has racked up 1.5 million streams. She's toured widely across the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and has supported Billy Bragg, Frank Turner and Emmy winner Hannah Gadsby.
Beyond the stage, she's appeared on ITVX, Channel 4, Sky Arts, BBC Radio 2's Folk Show and The Guilty Feminist podcast, and has recorded live BBC sessions with Tom Robinson and Jo Whiley. Her 2024 album Build Something Better, produced by Frank Turner, topped the Official Folk Album Chart, so the full-band half of the night will draw from that as well as the earlier records.
