Stand-up comedy night showcasing up-and-coming talent on the first and third Friday of each month.
Drones Comedy Club is back at Chapter on Friday 16 October, starting at 8.00pm. It's a stand-up night that's been running since 2007, and the whole thing is built around giving comedians space to experiment and audiences a reason to smile. The focus is on showcasing up-and-coming talent, so it's more of a discovery night than a polished showcase of big names.
If you're not around on the 16th, there are plenty of other dates to pick from. Drones runs on the first and third Friday of each month, so it's a regular fixture rather than a one-off. The next few are Friday 6 November, Friday 20 November, Friday 4 December, and Friday 18 December, all starting at 8.00pm. If you're in the mood for comedy but can't make this one, you've got four more chances before the end of the year.
It's held at Chapter, the international centre for contemporary arts and culture at Media Point. The venue was set up by artists in 1971 and runs as a registered charity, and it's a bit of a hub in itself: there's a cinema, a gallery open Tuesday to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm, and a café bar open every day from 9am. So if you're arriving early, you can hang out in the café or wander through the gallery before the comedy kicks off.
