Cardiff Market opens after dark with live broadcasts, DJ sets, live performances and food as part of the Cardiff Music City Festival.
Cardiff Market opens after dark for three free evenings from Thursday 15 to Saturday 17 October, as part of the Cardiff Music City Festival. The festival returns for its third year, bringing together Sลตn, Llais and the Welsh Music Prize with support from the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council. The night is run by Welsh alternative station Radio Sudd, which broadcasts live from the market all day with artist interviews and festival coverage before handing over to DJs and live acts on a balcony stage overlooking the floor. The market's independent food and drink traders stay open throughout.
Radio Sudd takes over the venue with live broadcasts running through the day, including On the Record with SHLUG and guest slots from Dewin, The Dogs and Wrkhouse. The evening DJ line-up features Sarah Sweeney, John Rea, Deckshark, Ceyda and Willow. Live performances on the balcony stage come from Ifan, Pypi Slysh and the John Mouse Multiverse. On the food front, Dirty Gnocchi, Bao Selecta, Patagonia, Thai Asian Delish, Pierogi, The Bearded Taco and Ffwrnes will be serving.
Curator Ruth Cayford describes the market as one of the city's most loved public spaces, built on community much like the music scene itself. It's not the first time the venue has hosted after-hours programming; the St David's Day Sessions paired acoustic sets by Welsh artists with Radio Sudd curated DJ sets. This time, the market stays open late for three nights in a row rather than just one.
