A comedy by Martin McDonagh about three CIA agents on Easter Island, presented as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival's South West programme.
Wild Horse Nine is coming to Watershed on Friday 6 November, a new comedy from Martin McDonagh. It's being shown as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival's South West programme, which Watershed is bringing to the region as a venue partner with 14 previews from a festival line-up described as its biggest year yet.
McDonagh's film mines the absurdities and complexities of male relationships. It's set on the cusp of dictator Augusto Pinochet taking power in Chile, and follows a trio of CIA agents who snipe and bicker as they await the 'go' date for their part in a military coup. Their plan unravels against the stunning natural beauty and mysterious ancient artefacts of Easter Island.
The cast brings together John Malkovich, Sam Rockwell and Steve Buscemi, three very different screen presences sharing the same space. It's a comedy, so the bickering is where much of the film lives, and the contrast between the agents' petty squabbles and the political upheaval around them is a good part of the setup.
