Documentary on Just Stop Oil activists, followed by a Q&A with director Rich Felgate and activists Phoebe Plummer and Dr Patrick Hart.
Watershed is screening We, The Hated on Monday 2 November, with the film starting at 18:00. It's an intimate documentary portrait of Just Stop Oil protesters, and the screening is followed by a Q&A with director Rich Felgate and two of the activists featured in the film, Phoebe Plummer and Dr Patrick Hart.
The film follows four activists — Indigo, Mark, Phoebe and Jane — as they hatch a plan of civil disobedience to wake the country up to the climate emergency, and what the government does to shut them down. It's less about the headlines and more about the people behind them, weighing the personal cost of taking action against the existential stakes of inaction as irreversible climate tipping points loom. It asks what it really costs to take a stand in a supposedly democratic society.
Having the Q&A afterwards is where it gets interesting. You'll get to hear from the director and two of the people who were actually in the thick of it, so if you've followed the Just Stop Oil protests from afar, it's a chance to hear the first-hand account rather than the one filtered through the news. The film itself is the starting point, and the conversation that follows lets you dig into the details.
