Punk band Turnspit from Chicago performs live at Thekla in Bristol, supported by Adult DVD.
Turnspit play Thekla on Wednesday 14 October, with Adult DVD on the bill as well. It's a mid-week one, so if you're not usually out on a Wednesday, this is one of those nights that might pull you in.
Turnspit are a punk band from Chicago, Illinois, and they describe their sound as wistful, melodic, midwestern punk with an occasional twang. That twang is the bit that sets them apart from the usual punk fare — a slight country lean that sits alongside the melodies rather than taking over. It's that midwestern feel coming through, and it's exactly what they're bringing over to Bristol.
On stage, the line-up is Jason Swearingen and Gillian McGhee on guitar, Dan Tinkler on drums, Salmon pants on bass, and Brad Davis on background vocals. With two guitars and a dedicated background vocalist, there's a fair bit of melodic ground to cover, and the whole thing is presented by DHP.
