A dark comedy anthology by Soul Cake Theatre, a Bristol company, bringing twisted tales to the Alma Tavern Theatre.
Soul Cake Theatre are back at the Alma Tavern Theatre with The Street Where You Live, which runs from Tuesday 20 October to Saturday 24 October, 8pm each night. It's a dark comedy anthology, six twisted tales in one evening, and they've billed it as the bastard child of Coronation Street and Inside No. 9 — so you've got the domestic, everyday setting of a street, but with the sharp, slightly sinister edge of a dark comedy. The stories are Front Window, Monster, The Agency, Strangers on a Train, Mother Lode and We Came Upon The Midnight Clear.
Soul Cake is a small Bristol company that's been putting on accessible, edgy, fringe-style theatre across the South West since 2015. They're led by writer and producer Andrzej Wawrowski, and they've always aimed for shows that appeal to people who think they don't like theatre. Their previous production, the comedy drama Loop, ended up selling out, so they're coming into this one with a bit of momentum behind them. For The Street Where You Live, they're working with associate artist Adam Elms.

It's a fairly straightforward night: the show runs about an hour and twenty minutes with no interval, so you're in and out in one go. It's recommended for ages 16 and over because of strong language, which fits the darker, more adult tone they're going for. If you're not one for the traditional theatre crowd and prefer something a bit more off-centre, this is exactly the kind of thing they do. The Alma Tavern Theatre is in Clifton, BS8 2HY, and the run goes from Tuesday 20 October through to Saturday 24 October, 8pm.
