A black comedy by Mauro Fazion about a condemned man's final wish to play the piano, directed by Peter Spence.
The Kelvin Players are putting on The Dying Wish at The Kelvin Players Theatre on Tuesday 27 October, with the curtain going up at 7:30pm. It's an original piece by Mauro Fazion, one of their own, and he's written it as a surreal and incisive black comedy that keeps its footing with glimmers of humanity. Peter Spence is directing.
The play follows Paul, a man sentenced to death and waiting on his attorney's appeals. Those appeals are tied up in an increasingly complex system of bribery and a tangle of fresh accusations, and right in the middle of it all is Paul's final request: a dying wish to play the piano. The whole thing is framed as an eclectic and deeply human examination of how people cope in the face of death, uncertainty and corruption.
It's a home-grown production, written by Fazion and staged by the company, so it's a Bristol-made play through and through. If you're into black comedy that doesn't shy away from the heavier side of things, this one should hit the mark.
