The Blindboy Podcast recorded live in Beacon Hall, a storytelling show that intertwines history, fiction, cultural critique and politics.
The Blindboy Podcast is coming to Beacon Hall on Thursday 22 October, part of what's being called its biggest tour yet. The show is a live recording of the podcast, so you're in the room for the actual session rather than a polished stand-up set. It's Blindboy Boatclub on stage, and he's bringing a surprise special guest along for the night.
If you're not familiar with him, Blindboy Boatclub is a self-described polymath—best-selling author, screenwriter, songwriter, musician, producer and academic. The podcast is the live extension of his storytelling show, which he says follows the Irish tradition of the Seanchaí, the old-style storyteller. He weaves together history, fiction, cultural critique and politics into a form he calls 'the podcast hug'. The New York Times described the show as a 'cultural phenomenon', and the live version leans on his wide-ranging curiosity to take the audience through art, psychology, politics, science and music.
It's staged in an intimate atmosphere, and he describes the aim as replicating a private conversation in a public space through the language of theatre. The evening is presented as meditative and engaging, and there's a surprise special guest at every show on the tour, so that part changes depending on when you go. It's age 16+ and reserved seating.
