Dub night featuring Iration Steppas and Concrete Lion as part of the Teachings in Dub series, with a full O.B.F soundsystem.
Iration Steppas are coming to The Trinity Centre on Friday 16 October, playing as part of the Teachings in Dub series. They're travelling in from Leeds, where they're billed as 'the vanguard of dub', and they're bringing their own heavyweight soundsystem with them. On the night, they'll be going head-to-head with Concrete Lion, the Bristol/Birmingham dub warriors led by Kai Dub. The promoters describe it as a collision of 'year 4000 steppas and militant bass'.
There's a fair bit of history behind this one. Teachings in Dub is a clubnight run by France's dub-quakers O.B.F, and for the event's 17th birthday, they revived the Iration Steppas live band. To make it happen, they marched their full crew and their epic speaker stack across the Channel to meet Concrete Lion on this side. It's not just a couple of decks and a mixer, either: O.B.F are bringing the full soundsystem over in two vanloads of speaker boxes.
Between the two soundsystems, the night is built around the clash of two different dub traditions meeting in one room. Iration Steppas are the Leeds contingent, Concrete Lion are the Bristol/Birmingham side, and they'll be playing against each other throughout the night. It's the kind of thing that draws dub heads from across the country, so expect a crowd that's travelled to be there.
