British shoegaze and alternative rock band Swervedriver perform live at The Fleece.
Swervedriver play The Fleece on Tuesday 27 October, with doors opening at 19:30. It's a single-band bill, so they're the only name on the poster for the night.
They formed in Oxford in 1989 and are a British shoegaze band, though that label only covers part of it. Their heavier rock & roll style also linked them to the grunge coming from the US Pacific Northwest, and some writers have called them Britain's answer to that sound. Their mix of storming and swirling guitar experimentation often crossed into psychedelia, and their lyrics frequently praised the nihilism of sports cars, racing and the open road.
The current line-up lists Jim Hartridge and Adam Franklin on vocals and guitars, Ben Ellis on bass and Mikey Jones on drums and vibes, with Mick Quinn and Or also on bass. It's a full band on stage, with the guitars and the rhythm section doing the heavy lifting.
