Inaugural wine club session led by Steph Scarborough, featuring Italian and Spanish wines with tasters and nibbles.
St George's Bristol is launching its first-ever wine club, and the inaugural session kicks off on Thursday 29 October. It's led by the venue's own in-house wine expert, Steph Scarborough, who holds a WSET Level 3 certification. She's running the whole thing in collaboration with DBM Wines in Clifton, who source the bottles for the club — and they're bringing in wines that don't usually make it onto the bar's regular list.
The first two sessions focus on Italian and Spanish regions, so this one is all about Italy. The evening starts with a glass of fizz on arrival, followed by three reds and three whites, all chosen to showcase the country's native grape varieties and the different regions they come from. With six wines in total, it's a fair spread across the board rather than just a few sips.
Because it's the venue's first wine club, this is the start of a regular run rather than a one-off. The collaboration with DBM Wines means the bottles are brought in specifically for the club, so you'll be tasting things you won't find on the usual house list. It's a good way to get a proper look at a specific country's grapes without having to buy whole bottles yourself.
