The final performance of the Sing for Happiness Christmas 2026 project, a community choir initiative exploring the wellbeing benefits of singing.
The Sing for Happiness Choir take the main hall at St George's Bristol on Saturday 5 December, the final performance of the project's Christmas edition. It's a midday concert, starting at 12.00pm, and tickets are £5.
If you haven't come across it before, Sing for Happiness isn't just a choir. It's a project St George's launched back in 2024, put together with experienced choir leaders from the Bristol community and specialist researchers. The whole idea was to learn songs together and measure how singing affects wellbeing. More than 1,500 people took part, and it ended up going viral on social media and making the news. The initial research showed that participants' feelings of calmness, energy and mood improved.
After two years of collecting data, the full research results are due to be published. The project has sparked a lot of interest in the importance of singing for mental and physical health, and this final performance is the culmination of that work. The choir on stage is made up of the people who've been part of it, so what you're hearing is the project in the flesh rather than just a set of findings.
