Preview screening of the Palme d'Or winning film 'Fjord' by Cristian Mungiu, as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival on Tour.
Cristian Mungiu brings his new film Fjord to Watershed on Saturday 17 October at 17:00, as part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival on Tour. It's a preview screening, so you'll be seeing it before it hits wider release. Mungiu is the Romanian director behind 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and Fjord has already picked up the Palme d'Or.
The story is a moral drama set in a small Norwegian town. An evangelical family settles in, and their seemingly placid adjustment shatters when suspicions about their children's wellbeing place the parents under severe scrutiny. It pits preaching conservative Christian parents against a holier-than-thou liberal system and asks whether our own sense of empathy is impartial. It's a 15, subtitled, and runs as a standalone preview.
Fjord is one of 14 previews the BFI London Film Festival on Tour is bringing to the South West, with Watershed hosting the season from Wednesday 7 to Monday 19 October. This is the venue's biggest year yet for the festival, with fresh awards-circuit features and Cannes premieres alongside long-awaited returns from directors like Boots Riley and Lee Chang-dong. If you're a regular at the cinema, it's a good window to catch several new titles in one go.
