Film screening of Josephine, directed by Beth de Araujo, part of the BFI London Film Festival on Tour 2026.
Watershed is screening Josephine on Wednesday 14 October at 20:30, as part of the BFI London Film Festival on Tour 2026. The film is directed by Beth de Araújo and took home the Grand Jury Dramatic Prize at Sundance.
It's a suspenseful and devastating story about a child trying to navigate life after witnessing a sexual assault. Eight-year-old Josephine knows she saw something bad, but she struggles to find answers, while her parents grapple with how to comfort her. The film weaves thriller and horror conventions into a serious and sobering scenario, so it's less of a straightforward drama and more of a slow-burn that uses those genres to get under the skin of the subject.
The screening is one of 14 previews Watershed is hosting from the festival line-up, its biggest year yet as a venue partner. The BFI London Film Festival on Tour brings the festival's best new films to Bristol and the South West, and the full programme includes work from filmmakers like Eleanor Coppola, Martin McDonagh, Boots Riley, Danny Boyle, Lee Chang-dong and Cristian Mungiu. Josephine is just one of those previews, so if you're into the festival circuit, there's plenty more to pick from across the season.
