A philosophy salon exploring existentialism as therapy, featuring Emmy van Deurzen, Julian Baggini and Jonathan Webber.
Emmy van Deurzen is coming to St George's Bristol on Thursday 19 November for a philosophy salon on existentialism as therapy. She'll be joined by host Julian Baggini and Jonathan Webber, Professor of Philosophy at Cardiff University and editor of The Penguin Book of Existentialist Philosophy. It's part of the Just Announced series at St George's, and it's open to anyone aged 14 and over.
Van Deurzen is one of the world's most respected existential therapists and the founder of the Existential Movement, which she set up to make existential ideas accessible to the wider public. The aim is to give people more clarity when they're reflecting on human existence or working through personal and emotional problems. Much of that is the focus of her new book, Beginning to Live, which argues for a way of being that lets everyone live more engagedly, purposefully, deliberately and buoyantly.
The evening is built to be open: the second half is led by the audience's own questions and contributions, so it's as much a conversation as a talk. If you want to eat and drink before it kicks off, you can pre-order festive food and drink from the Café Bar and collect it from an hour before the start.
