Concert by NewHvn, formerly A Burial at Sea, blending post-rock, shoegaze and post-hardcore influences, supported by HAAL and Lemondaze.
NewHvn play Rough Trade Bristol on Thursday 22 October, with doors opening at 19:30 and the music starting at 20:00. They're touring their latest album, Spring Time Blues, which took them on a two-month run across Europe earlier this year; this October stretch of UK shows continues that tour.
If the name doesn't ring a bell, it's because they were formerly known as A Burial at Sea. They emerged from the middle of nowhere in Ireland as the remains of a post-rock band, and that's where their sound still sits. They blend those post-rock roots with shoegaze and post-hardcore influences, so you'll find the slow-build textures of the former alongside the wall of sound and heavier edges of the latter. It's a bit of a crossover, and Spring Time Blues is the record they're working from on this run.
They aren't playing alone, either. Joining them are HAAL, a Bristol experimental post-rock quartet, and Lemondaze, an alternative shoegaze quartet from London. Between the three of them, the night leans heavily into the louder, more atmospheric side of indie rock, with post-rock and shoegaze running through all three acts. It's a 14+ night, so it's open to younger crowds as well as the regulars.
