Documentary screening of NAZA by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, presented in partnership with Bristol Doc Club, with introduction and meet-up afterwards.
Watershed is screening the documentary NAZA on Monday 26 October, starting at 18:10. It's presented in partnership with Bristol Doc Club, who'll introduce the film before it starts and then host a Doc Club meet-up in the Café & Bar afterwards, so there's a bit of a social side to the evening rather than just watching and heading home.
NAZA is an 80-minute documentary by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, the duo behind No Other Land, which won an Oscar in 2024. It was filmed during secret rooftop conversations in Tel Aviv at night, and it looks at the systems behind Israel's mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, as told by the people who designed and operated them. It's an inside look at how those systems actually work, coming from the people who were on the inside of them.
It premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, where it drew a 25-minute standing ovation — a festival record — and went on to win the Special Jury Prize. Abraham and Szor say they made it out of a sense of obligation to use their position as Israelis to examine those systems, and to explore the silences that go beyond their investigative journalism. The film runs in Hebrew and English with English subtitles throughout.
