Talk by Chris Sperring, owl conservationist, on his book Ghosts of the Night: The Extraordinary Lives of British Owls.
Chris Sperring is at St George's Bristol on Saturday 14 November, 3.00pm, for a talk that forms part of the venue's 'Just Announced' series. It's built around his new book, Ghosts of the Night: The Extraordinary Lives of British Owls, which looks at the Barn and Tawny owls alongside their more enigmatic cousins, the Short-eared, Long-eared and Little owls.
Sperring is a professional wildlife conservationist with the Hawk and Owl Trust, and he's known as a genuine 'owl whisperer' — a title that fits given how much of his life he spends working with them. He's a wildlife photographer and writes for magazines and newspapers, and he presents and broadcasts on TV and radio, so he's used to talking about this stuff to an audience. In his spare time he studies and conserves wildlife and fronts Raptor, an environment and wildlife rock band, which adds a bit of an unexpected side to the conservationist image.
