Screening of the genre-defying queer epic La Bola Negra by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, part of the BFI London Film Festival 2026 on Tour.
La Bola Negra screens at Watershed on Monday 12 October at 20:00, as part of the BFI London Film Festival 2026 on Tour. It's a preview of the festival's line-up, one of 14 screenings that the tour is bringing to Bristol and the South West this season.
Directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, La Bola Negra is described as a genre-defying queer epic rooted in the legacy of Federico García Lorca. It reimagines an unfinished work by the writer, following three men whose lives are bound together by desire, pain and inheritance across three different eras: 1932, 1937 and 2017. The film is presented as a triptych on communication, inheritance, silence and memory, and it's rich with Lorca's poetry throughout.
It's a sweeping exploration of memory and queer history that honours those whose lives and loves were too often forced into silence. Attitude called it 'one of the best films I've ever seen'. The film carries a 15 certificate, so it's for a more mature audience.
