Jeremy Bowen, BBC International Editor, discusses the battle for truth in conflict zones, drawing on his reporting from Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Sudan and Yemen.
Jeremy Bowen is coming to St George's on Monday 26 October, for a talk he's calling Truth Under Fire. He's the BBC's International Editor, and he's spent more than 40 years reporting from over 90 countries and 20 wars, from El Salvador back in 1989 to the frontlines of the conflicts we're seeing today. He's interviewed world leaders, documented war crimes, and borne witness when governments would rather the world look away.
On the night, he'll draw on his reporting from the centre of the wars in Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Sudan and Yemen to set out how the battle for truth is being waged and why press freedom is collapsing in conflict zones. It's a wide-ranging look at the ground he's covered, and the common thread running through it. The talk is followed by a second half where the audience can put their own questions to him, so it's as much a conversation as a presentation.
