Saxophonist Jasmine Myra brings her 8-piece ensemble to play tracks from her album Where Light Settles.
Jasmine Myra brings her eight-piece ensemble to St George's Bristol on Thursday 29 October, with the set drawn from her third album, Where Light Settles.
Myra is a Leeds-based saxophonist, composer and bandleader who's built her sound around some of the best young talent in the north of England. Her original instrumental music is euphoric and uplifting, and she pulls from a wide range of influences: the electronic textures of Bonobo, the atmospheric work of Γlafur Arnalds and the jazz lineage of Kenny Wheeler. Where Light Settles came out on Gondwana Records, and Myra describes it as the next stage of her musical explorations, powered by her vision of duality.
That duality is what she says the record is really about. She describes it as stemming from her ruminations on life, growth and progression: 'Pain is unavoidable, and you'll have hardship no matter what, but you don't grow or learn about yourself or the world around you without it. The duality is the growth and coming out the other side.' It's that idea β that the hard parts are what actually move you forward β that sits at the heart of the album and the show.
