Concert by the American heavy psychedelic rock band Elder, with support from Temple Fang and REZN.
Elder play the Trinity Centre on Tuesday 23 February, with Temple Fang and REZN opening. It's a long way from where they started: three friends in a small coastal town in Massachusetts around 2006, bonded by a love of heavy, down-tuned music. Two decades on, they've become something of an underground anomaly, a band that's managed to absorb and shed influences across genres without ever falling into pastiche or losing its identity.
They began as stoner and doom stalwarts and grew into one of the most unique voices in heavy psychedelic rock. Their compositions run long, often covering the ground from the 1970s to the present within a single song, with a penchant for what Rolling Stone called 'sheer gatefold-era grandeur'. The line-up has shifted over the years — they added a guitarist, lost a drummer, and the band has moved mostly from the States to Germany. Along the way they've put out six full-length albums, four EPs and two live records.
Their latest, Through Zero, was recorded in Berlin over several months between 2025 tours. It's the first album the band produced and co-mixed themselves, working with long-time collaborator Richard Behrens. That's the record they're touring now, and it'll be the main focus of the set.
