Improvising trio Echo Engine, with special guest Pete Judge, within John Law's PPianissimo Series, supported by Uncle Homunculus.
Echo Engine play the Glass Studio at St George's Bristol on Wednesday 4 November, with special guest Pete Judge. The trio is part of John Law's PPianissimo Series, a programme supported by Arts Council England and All Instruments music shop in Westbury.
Echo Engine was formed by keyboardist Daniel Biro, sonic artist Adrian Newton and guitarist Rob Palmer. They describe their work as sitting in the space between ambient music, groove and electronica, and the project grew out of a long-running collaboration between Biro and Palmer, whose 2004 album The Long Journey Home came out on Sargasso Records. They conceive of it as a fluid, expandable project, and the trio regularly collaborates with guest musicians — Pete Judge is the guest on this one.
Opening the night is Uncle Homunculus, who blends improvisation, ambient soundscapes and Eno-inspired live looping. Between that and the main set, it's a night that leans into the quieter, more textural end of things.
