Rachel Podger on violin and Lucie Horsch on recorders perform a programme of baroque music, including works by Bach, Telemann and traditional songs.
Rachel Podger and Lucie Horsch play together for the first time at St George's Bristol on Friday 30 October, a baroque evening with violin and recorder. It's part of the venue's 'Just Announced' series, and the two are coming from different ends of the early music world to share a stage.
The programme runs through the baroque period, with works by Bach, Telemann, C P E Bach, Montanari and Boismoitier. Alongside those, they'll play traditional songs, including 'Johnnie Faa'. It's a mix of the big names and the less-familiar, and the whole thing runs for about 70 minutes without an interval.
Podger is one of the world's leading baroque violinists. The Times called her 'the unsurpassed British glory of the baroque violin', and she was the first woman awarded the Kohn Foundation Bach Prize in October 2015. She was Gramophone Artist of the Year in 2018, and her album Tutta Sola picked up the BBC Music Magazine Recording of the Year and Instrumental Award in 2023. Horsch is a recorder player The Guardian hailed as 'the latest big thing in recorder playing', having built her following across Europe by bridging baroque masterpieces with contemporary works. This is the first time the two have played together.
