Night of garage rock, post-punk and noise rock headlined by DITZ, Enola Gay and Iguana Death Cult at St George's Bristol.
Ditz headline St George's Bristol on Saturday 17 October, with Enola Gay and Iguana Death Cult on the bill. It's part of Down Stokes, a multi-venue festival of psych and garage rock put on by Velvet Echoes and Extra Terrestrial Promotions, who describe the whole thing as proudly independent and community-driven.
Ditz are a Brighton band who formed in 2016. They build a fuzzy, overdriven, noisy and oscillating distortion around a heart-pounding framework of fuzz-loaded craftsmanship. If you've heard them before, you'll know that's a fair way of putting it: it's a heavy, loud sound that doesn't let up.
Enola Gay come from Belfast and describe themselves as 'post punk, noise rock, hip-hop shoegaze' — a mix that puts them in a different gear from the others on the bill. Iguana Death Cult are a Rotterdam five-piece who first made their mark with giddy, hard-hitting garage punk and acid-drenched psychedelics, before blossoming into a unit that draws on post-punk, krautrock, new wave, soul and disco. Between the three of them, the afternoon covers a fair bit of ground, from the heavy fuzz of Ditz to the garage punk and disco-tinged sounds of Iguana Death Cult.
