Screening of the play All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea followed by a Q&A with director Jeanie Finlay, part of BFI LFF on Tour 2026.
Watershed is screening All Rivers Spill Their Stories to the Sea on Wednesday 21 October, with a Q&A to follow with the director, Jeanie Finlay. The film is part of BFI LFF on Tour 2026, so it's one of the London Film Festival titles that's made its way over to Bristol for a run.
Finlay wrote and directed the film, and the story is set in the North-East of England. It follows Stan Rennie, a fisherman who's worked the same stretch of coastline—where the river meets the sea—for over fifty years, a trade passed down through his family for centuries. His world is turned upside-down overnight when a vast tide of poisoned crabs and lobsters washes ashore like a biblical plague, in the wake of a new Brexit-fuelled development. It's described as a wry David and Goliath story told with gallows humour and a strong local accent, and at its heart it's about the grief of navigating a world that has suddenly and inexplicably changed forever.
Having the Q&A afterwards is a nice addition. You'll get to see the film in full, and then Finlay will be there to talk through it, so if you've got questions about the story or how it came together, that's your chance to ask. It's a good way to get a bit more context on the piece before you head home.
