A piano four hands concert by Adam Heron and Nina Savicevic, part of the Rising Stars series at St George's Bristol.
Adam Heron and Nina Savicevic play piano four hands at St George's Bristol on Thursday 5 November, as part of the venue's Lunchtime Concerts. They've titled the programme Echoes and Fantasies, and it's built around three pieces for two players sharing one piano: Heron's own Nostalgia: Romantic Fantasy for Piano Duo, Mozart's Sonata for Piano Four Hands in B-flat Major K 358, and Schubert's Fantasia in F Minor D 940. It's a mix of the two of them working through the classics and Heron bringing his own writing into the set.
Heron is a multidisciplinary classical pianist of Nigerian-Filipino ancestry, born in Hong Kong. He first made a name for himself after his 2018 television debut as a BBC Young Musician finalist, and since then he's played at Wigmore Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Southbank Centre. He's collaborated with Chi-chi Nwanoku CBE, soprano Francesca Chiejina and cellist Laura van der Heijden, and picked up the 2020 Harriet Cohen Bach Prize along the way. He's also a laureate of the Stefano Marizza and HRH Princess Lalla Meryem competitions. He studied with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music, completed a master's in ethnomusicology at Cambridge, and is now a PhD candidate at the University of Glasgow.
Savicevic brings a virtuosic focus and intensity to her playing. A reviewer for Devon Life Magazine put it this way: "When Nina plays, the whole place suddenly fills with the kind of music that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand on end."
