A cinematic, acrobatic performance film by Laura Murphy exploring mental health, queerness, rage and the 21st Century space race.
Dr Laura Murphy brings A Spectacle of Herself to Circomedia on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, both nights starting at 7:30pm. It's a performance film, and the two dates are the same show played twice, so you've got a choice of evening.
It's a piece of film that grew out of Murphy's research into a new live work, and it charts a cosmic voyage through performance, probing space and outer space while interrogating virtuosity, autobiography, identity and the spectacularised body. The film layers autobiography, lip sync, creative captioning, video and aerial performance, all delivered in Murphy's critical and cheeky signature style. Her practice connects autobiographical writing with aerial choreography, and the film is billed as a bold, cinematic, acrobatic odyssey through the frontiers of mental health, queerness, rage and the 21st Century space race.

If you're familiar with her work, you'll recognise the way she mixes the personal with the acrobatic, and this one takes that out into the cosmic. It's recommended for ages 16 and over, so it's not one for the younger ones. Both screenings are at 7:30pm, Friday 16 and Saturday 17 October, at Circomedia in Bristol.
