A work-in-progress comedy show by Zoe Cousin exploring themes of survival through the character of Wakefield hardman Paul Sykes.
If you are looking for something a bit different during this year's Brighton Fringe, Zoe Cousin is bringing a work-in-progress show to the city that focuses on a specific figure from Wakefield's history. The show, titled Paul Sykes is Back on the Family Patch, explores the story of Paul Sykes, a man known as an infamous hardman from Wakefield. Cousin, who has been recognised as a regional finalist for the BBC New Comedy Awards 2025 and a semi-finalist for 'So You Think You’re Funny 2025', is using this performance to delve into themes of survival and self-discovery through the character. It is worth noting that the project has been awarded the Luke Rollason Memorial Bursary 2026.

The second is the following day, May 31, 2026, at 14:00, held at Laughing Horse @ Caroline of Brunswick. Regarding the logistics, the event operates on a 'Pay What You Want' model. You have the option to book an advance ticket starting at £8 if you want to guarantee your spot, or you can simply turn up at the venue for free entry, provided there is still space available. Since this is a comedy show, it is strictly for an adult audience, with an age restriction of 18+. The content includes strong language and audience interaction, so keep that in mind when planning your visit. Also, please be aware of the venue specifics for the first date: Comedy at the Caxton is located in a lower level and does not have wheelchair access.
