Brighton five-piece art-rock outfit Youth Sector deliver an agitated, robotic sound at the Hidden Herd music discovery night.
Youth Sector play The Hope & Ruin on Saturday 20 February, a Brighton five-piece art-rock outfit with a sound they describe as agitated and robotic. The night is put on by Hidden Herd, Brighton's new music discovery night that spotlights emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems, so this is one of their showcases rather than a standalone tour date.
If you haven't come across them yet, the band's sound sits on the art-rock end of things, and they're not shy about how they describe it. They talk about it being agitated and robotic, packed with witty barbs and 'boopy bits' — that last one gives you a decent sense of the electronic, slightly off-kilter textures they work into the songs. It's the kind of thing that's easier to hear than to pin down in a few words, and it's exactly the sort of thing Hidden Herd tends to put on.
It's a local band, too, so this is a Brighton five-piece playing in their own city. They're part of the newer wave of art-rock coming out of here, and this is a chance to catch them in a room that's built for it. The Hope & Ruin is right in the thick of things on Queens Road, so it's an easy one to get to if you're already around town on a Saturday night.
