A morning writing workshop led by Gemma Seltzer at the Brighton Dome, exploring themes of water and land through poetry and prose as part of the Brighton Festival.
If you are looking for a way to spend your Saturday morning, there is a writing workshop taking place on 16 May 2026 at the Brighton Dome. Gemma Seltzer, who established the Write & Shine programme in 2015 following a collaborative project at 5:00 am, will be leading a session titled 'Shorelines'. The event is scheduled from 07:30 to 09:30 in the Founders Room, located at Church Street, Brighton, BN1 1UE. The workshop focuses on the intersection of land and water, encouraging participants to explore this theme through poetry and stories while considering the role of detailed observation in creative writing.

The session is structured as a quiet space to welcome the morning, focusing on the process of starting a new piece of work. You will be reading various texts inspired by the coast and reflecting on the act of writing itself. To help with the early start, tea and coffee are provided for all participants. The workshop is open to anyone aged 16 and over, with the standard requirement that those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult if they are attending. It is a space intended for writers and those interested in literature who want to use the early hours for creative reflection.
This event is part of the Brighton Festival programme. The standard ticket price is £30.00, though it is worth keeping in mind that prices can fluctuate daily. For those booking via phone or online, there is an additional £3.50 booking fee, which does not apply to Brighton Dome or Brighton Festival members. Gemma Seltzer brings experience from her previous commissions for organisations such as Age UK, BBC Radio 3, the Tate Modern, and the Venice Biennale. This workshop offers a chance to engage with her specific approach to writing and performance within the local context of the festival.
