An 18+ live music gig featuring the Brighton-born duo Wrex and special guests, presented by Sugar-Free Records.
WREX are playing The Hope & Ruin on Friday 4 December, with the night billed as Wrexmas. It's presented by Sugar-Free Records, and the line-up is WREX plus special guests. The show starts at 8:00 pm.
WREX are a Brighton-born duo who make electro-charged alternative rock. They describe their sound as drawing on punk, nu-metal, pop and trance, and they talk about it as music that fills both dancefloors and mosh pits. It's a fair bit of ground to cover in one set, and that's exactly the point — the punk and nu-metal provide the heavier, mosh-pit side of things, while the pop and trance bring the dancefloor energy. The two aren't meant to sit side by side; they're meant to pull in opposite directions at once.
The venue is The Hope & Ruin, a 150-capacity room above a busy pub at 11-12 Queens Rd. It's a space that hosts live shows from local and international artists alongside a regular poetry night and the odd late-night club. There's a bar serving draught lagers, beers and ciders, plus the venue's own Hope & Ruin Mosaic Pale Ale, and a ground-floor bar to hang out in before and after gigs. The venue stays open until midnight Sunday to Wednesday and until 2am Thursday to Saturday.
